So here’s the deal: MizB at Should Be Reading would have us: Teaser Tuesdays

Grab your current read Let the book fall open to a random page Share with us two (2) “teaser” sentences from that page, somewhere between lines 7 and 12. You also need to share the title of the book that you’re getting your “teaser” from … that way people can have some great book recommendations if they like the teaser you’ve given!

There is only one VERY IMPORTANT THING TO REMEMBER: *** Do NOT post anything that could spoil the plot of the book!!! *** If your sentences that fall between lines 7 and 12 on the page you turn to give too much away, choose a different page, or a different spot on the page… we don’t want to ruin any surprises for anyone!

Mine for this week is:

“His child-size hands were almost translucent, made Finus shiver a little at the thought of them handling the dead – or him, dead.  And within that cartoonish gathering of flesh blinked those deep-set and absurdly pretty eyes, like a movie idol’s, so anomalous as to shock one upon first noticing.”

This is again from The Heaven of Mercury by Brad Watson.

I’ve been pretty busy, so I’m only reading in thew bathtub right now, when I have a long soak.  It may take me awhile to get through this one.

If you love books and reading half as much as I do, why not join me on Shelfari?

Mine for this week is:

“Even with all that iridescent magic up there, your eye will no longer linger on the light, it will no longer trace the constellations. You’ll care only about the darkness and you’ll watch it for hours, for days, maybe even for years, trying in vain to believe you’re some kind of indispensable.”

This is from House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski. It’s an… interesting read. The reviews for it are generally good, although reader reviews range widely. If it can be genraed it must fall somewhere between Lit Fic and Horror. Or perhaps it’s Lit Fic with Horror as a sub genre. Or perhaps it’s simply art.
I’m finding it a somewhat laborious read, best undertaken in small sips, which is not how I generally read a book I’m enjoying, (and may be partially due to the fact that I need new reading glasses) I’m a devourer of books. I think it may be why I so often keep books I really love to reread later at leisure and more fully savour the flavors.
Nonetheless this book comes highly recommended by my e. who has yet to steer me wrong, and I am enjoying it. It’s an interesting concept, and I might almost read it for that alone, but the story is… intriguing.
There is something else cool about this book. The author’s sister, Poe, put out a musical and lyrical companion to it in the form of a great Album length CD which is entitled “Haunted”. I like the music a lot.

Questions for God or the Flying Spaghetti Monster; whoever’s listening
| July 15, 2007 | 11:53 pm

So this is a kick in the pants. Sorry I missed Venusday, (well, ya’ll did; I got my socks fucked off on the livingroom couch). The website is Questions for God. You can submit questions, or copy and paste them in your blog and answer them (since neither God nor FMS has deigned to respond, as yet.)
I know I’ve mentioned David Brin’s novel, Earth. And if you were paying attention, you’ve heard me say, “I wanna be Jen Wolling when I grow up”. Well, I’m still waiting for somebody to read the fucking book and then, of course, laugh their ass off when they find out what I mean by that statement. I thought about just going ahead and giving up the ghost. Just explaining it. But then I changed my mind. After all, I’m such an open book and a gal’s gotta have a lil mystery, sooo…
Forget it. I’m not gonna spoil the book or my joke. Suffice it to say that periodically I have decided to play Jen Wolling, here on my blog. So, as the spirit (so to speak) moves me, I shall post questions from the Questions for God website and do my best to answer them. I may or may not choose the questions of the week. So here goes:

Ask Questions for God

Jen Wolling: No.

Ask Questions for God
at the Blue Pyramid.

Jen Wolling: No. However, if you pose a question and open any book at random, you may get the answer you seek. This is an ancient form of divination known of as bibliomancy (in which one consults a Holy Book such as the King James Bible or the Koran) or stitchomancy (one of the oldest forms of divination (at least 3000 years old in fact), in which the querant opens to a random page of randomly selected book in a library, to find an excerpt that applies to the situation at hand). These type of answers are often vague and open to interpretation. I suggest you get a real 8 ball, or an Ouija board.

Jen Wolling: I was bored. Watch out for my next big show: destroying.

*Note: I’m thinkin’ this might be a fun meme. I’m not gonna tag anybody, but if playing God sounds like fun, head over to the site, pick a question or two and leave a comment and link.

Speaking of bored… *yawn*
