NaNoWriMo Update in Thorne’sworld; Day 2
| November 3, 2008 | 3:16 am

Day one got off to a bit of a slow start. The kids, finally packed and loaded, left for LV just before midnight. I ran back in the house, determined not to cry but no worries; I was numb with exhaustion. I booted my Mac and checked the time just as the clock rolled over to midnight, then my cel rang. My e. We procrastinated happily together for awhile, trying to get the ins and outs of Scrivener working the same for both of us. I think we actually decided to get down to writing by about 1:45.

By 4:45, 915 painful grasping words later I was wiped.

The words were just as recalcitrant today until I took a nap, but I woke up feeling pretty good and got back to work.

About an hour ago I posted my new wordcount to the NaNoWriMo site.

In the meantime I came across a great thread on the NaNo site for making offerings to the Dark Gods of Writing. Here’s mine:

Oh mighty and infinite beings of darkness and prose,

Grant me the strength to keep writing, even when my inner editor is telling me my prose is crap,
the courage to face the blank page at the beginning of each scene,
and the wisdom to stop writing run-on sentences.

In return I offer
This poor ripoff of The Serenity Prayer.
All the misspellings and typos in all of the petitions in this thread.
Every second comma (I have to keep a few).
The mad dash to level 80 that my guildies are making in an attempt to make WoW history on our server.

Your abject slave,
Thorne

PS
If you need a soul; take mine. I gave it up to my art long ago.
If you want blood, I’m sure that can be arranged. I could probably even cut off my little finger at the first joint if you insist.

Yay, me! 3,460 words! A full 126 words above my daily quota. I’m gonna take a bit of a break now, putter around a few blogs for a few, watch a lil TV then see if I can’t pound out a few more words before the night is over.

915 words tonight. This Morning. Whatever. Time to sleep.

Only The Good FRIDAYS # 2
| October 31, 2008 | 5:55 pm

Only the Good FRIDAYS is a new meme started by Shelly over at This Eclectic Life. It’s a great idea for any time, but especially now; in these rough times. I’ve had a bit of a rough year, and have been trying hard to come up for air and get my emotional life, at least, back on track and try to keep things moving in a positive direction.
The first 3 posts I’ve read of this meme today are really helping me with thinking good thoughts today. Over at Candid Karina read all about Berries, but if you really want a gratitude blast, check out her last week’s OtGF entitled My Girls!!
Shelly and Kathleen have written great posts (with links) about helping folks out in various ways, which is always good!!

I’m sitting here at my daughter and SiL’s apartment taking a bit of a break from helping them pack to move. Moving sux, we all know that, and this move is difficult in more ways than one and for myriad reasons, but I’m going to take my queue from these gals and make a little list of the good things about this move.

1.) As much as I’m going to miss having my girl only about a half hour away, the 2 hour drive to her new place really isn’t that bad, and gas prices are down a bit, so that’s GOOD!!!

2.) They are moving to Las Vegas and I do so love to play the slots every once in awhile. Now I’ll have an excuse to go! That’s GOOD!!

3.) Thornie is almost mobile again; finally!!! I’m getting my little Dodge Dakota hatchback (only 54K original owner miles! Woot!!) on Monday. My Girlyboi has cut a deal to provide her most excellent skilled construction labor in exchange for the car! Yay, Tam! Thank you, my sweet, I love you!! So I won’t have to drive the truck when I go to visit. GOOD, GOOD and GOOD!!!

4.) My F. has already found more jobs in her field to apply for there in LV in a week than she found out here in a month. That’s GOOD!

5.) I think this will be good for F. and A. This little apartment was like their greiving cave, and maybe they need to be out of it to try to come back into the world. Maybe this can be a fresh start for them after this horrible year of loss. That would be GOOD.

6.) C., my “sister-mom” (A.’s mom) will enjoy having them close to her for awhile. I know she has missed her only son as much as I will miss my only daughter. That’s GOOD.

7.) They are all coming back to spend the Holidays with us. That’s SUPER GOOD!!

8.) And last, but by no means least; the kids say this is temporary. That California is home, and they just need to get on their feet and save some money and they’ll be back. That’s GOOD!!!

Well, that’s about all the moving related good I can think of right now. I do, however, have one more little bit of personal good.

Tonight just before midnight I’ll be booting up my computer, starting a great program called Scrivener up and then at 12:01 on November 1st, I’ll begin the first 1,667 daily words for my 2008 NaNoWriMo novel. I have a pretty good idea for a starting place, I’m curious to see where my characters will take me, and it’s going to be a much lighter subject than last year. I’m a little bit excited about it, so that’s GOOD!

Wish me luck!
