Awards Come in Threes?
| January 29, 2009 | 8:38 am

Hee hee!  Okay, I’m tickled.  I’ve been chosen by some simply fabulous bloggers for a fabulous award.

From my story-telling, bacon loving, redheaded happy hooker friend Shelly at This Eclectic Life and from my super witty and witchy, articulate animal lover friend Mo at Inside Mo’s Mind for this award:

fabulousblogawardsandee

According to the rules of the award, you must list your 5 addictions and then pass it on to 5 deserving bloggers to do the same.

No problem on the addictions.  In Thornesworld anything I do once and like I’m probably addicted to.  I’m just that kinda addict.

1) Cigarettes

2) Coffee

3) Midnight Snacking

4) My Mac

5) WoW (It’s true.  LOL)

Now for the hard part.  5 bloggers.  I would really  like to give it back to both Mo and Shelly.  I love their blogs and read them both regularly.  But I think I’m going to pay it forward and choose some bloggers who haven’t already been chosen (to my klnowledge).

1) The Bumbles

Molly and Andy are a blast!  Whether it’s music reviews and memes, the infamous “Gym Rats”, book stuff or general lifestuff they are a fun read!

2) My new friend, The Pagan Sphinx! This gal is sincere and thoughtful and articulate.  She also takes incredible photos (you can check them out at her photo-blog The Pagan’s Eye)

3) Toni at Ramblings is simply a hoot!  A creative and inquisitive mind and poet!!!

4) Betmo at LIFE’S JOURNEY, for NEVER pulling a punch!  You rawk, Billie!!!

and last, but by no means least:

5) TUA at The Future was Yesterday.  Seriously, although I don’t always agree with him, (and even when I agree with some of what he says, I don’t agree witht he rest), I adore this guy!  He is raw and often obnoxious, (but always honest) and he has a big heart! (And he posts the absolute BEST rants in the blogosphere!)

Now, it seems that dear Toni has also given me an award.

“When life gives you lemons…Make Lemonade” award.
There are only two requirements, and they are as follows:

  • You muse link back to the person, who bestowed the award upon you
  • You must nominate 10 others (ONLY 10)

Well, truth is I have to nominate Shelly and leave it at that. She is truly amazing, from her share a square project to her new good medicine project to her Optimism Virus, OtGF!”
Shelly, I loves ya!!!

Peace out, peeps!

Only the Good Friday #9: As Good as it Gets
| January 23, 2009 | 8:39 pm

I woke up at 9:15 this morning and despite my sore back and legs (which may be from crawling around the floor laying ceramic tile, but may also be from the insane bunny sex we had Wednesday afternoon, hehe.  Either way, it’s a good sore.) I was happy and excited.  The G-Lady’s bedroom, soon to be the temporary Art Studio, is looking great.  I had a hot bath, (which is always GOOD), to soak out some of the soreness, drank a cuppa and finished a decent serial killer novel, Fear Itself, by Jonathan Nasaw.

I cranked up the tunes, got some chores done and started some laundry and then decided to check my email before getting down on my hands and knees to lay some more ceramic tile.

My good morning got shot to hell with the email, and I can’t really think of a way to turn it around and make it good, right now.

So I am going to head to the G-Lady’s room and lay some tile.  While I’m doing that I’m going to try to turn my day around and find some good, if not in the news I received, then find a way to rise above it and be my positive, hopeful self.

While I’m doing that, why not head on over to Twilight Earth, where there is a really GOOD discussion going on about how people of religion, specifically followers of Creationism, can/do/don’t integrate environmental responsibility inot their lives/philosophy.

Peace, out!

*11:25 PM edit.

Friday is nearly over and I made it through with a minimum of tears, considering.  Hee hee.  So what; I didn’t get the job I wanted and worse was SURE I woud get!  BFD!  We did get a response on one of the GirlyBoi’s app’s and I’ll tell all about that later.  You’ll get a giggle out of this.

More good news is the G-Lady’s bedroom floor is almost done.  The Girlyboi is gonna help me cut n fit the last 1/4 or so tomorrow and grout it Sunday or Monday and woot!  Temporary studio! Yay!!! (I must say it looks killer good, too!  I’ll post pics when it’s done.)  I’m in love with OUR PREZ!!!  That’s good, too!

Good night blogland!

So Shelly‘s idea for this positive posting meme is:

We are living in some pretty negative times, aren’t we? You can’t pick up a newspaper or turn on the television without hearing more bad news about the economy, the war, the stock market, the political candidates. I think that many of us are living in a state of fear (though I’m in the state of Texas).

Fear feeds upon itself
. It’s like a contagious virus. I’m tired of adding to it. I want to start another kind of “virus.”

You see, I think that optimism can be contagious, too. If we consciously try to look at the good in the world around us, it will become easier to see.

Won’t you join us?? Help spread the good love for Only The Good Friday!

Only the Good Fridays #3

The Bad: Prop 8 passed in California. What that means, if you don’t know, is that I am less than and deserving of less rights, than those of you who are straight (heterosexual). What that means to me and my life partner is that we are NOT guaranteed under the constitution the right to the pursuit of all that happy crap that the rest of you straight folk are guaranteed.

The Good: In California we gays are allowed the dubious priviledge of obtaining a legal “Domestic Partnership”, which supposedly replaces the necessity for “marriage” between same sex couples.
Well, it’s something good-ish. It does help a tiny bit, if the hospitals, employers, insurance companies and so on happen to be “gay friendly”. It doesn’t force or encourage or in any way mandate that sort of behavior or policy by those folks or anything like that.

Here are a few of the differences between the rights of married people and the rights of DP folk:

Inheritance (such as a home you share, etc):
married: the surviving partner doesn’t pay inheritance tax
DP: is required to pay inheritance tax on the portion they don’t own (one-half, etc)

Health Insurance:
married: the premium is collected from the paycheck and then the remaining wages are taxed
DP: the premium is taxed before it is taken from the wages

Medical issues (life support, etc):
married: decisions fall to partner
DP and Power of Attorney: decisions fall to other surviving immediate family first (children or parent)

Adoption:
married: both parents can adopt together
DP: only one parent can adopt, the other parent is not considered a parent

Hmmm.

Oh, I really thought I was coming home tonight to post a big good. You see, last night I found out that The Orange County Hall of Records stated that they would not stop issuing same sex marriage licenses until they were ordered to do so. So last night My Tam and I filled out an online Marriage license application that we were to pick up this morning. We had our minister with us. We were dressed to the nines and as giddy and excited as any couple about to be married. All of this was REALLY good! But then we called, since its a 2 hour drive from our place. They had a recording. It said that they had been ordered not to issue any more marriage licenses to same sex couples. This, even though there are some 500k uncounted provisional ballots, and the so-called amendment won’t be certified and ratified into the Cali state constitution until Dec. 13th. If you are wondering why we weren’t married during the brief period we might have been (between June and Nov ), it’s because I had dropped the ball on my divorce after my x-husbane tried to kill me. Hehe (He didn’t– that’s good! LOL) The reason we HOPED to get in under the wire is that my divorce became final today. That’s REAL GOOD!

The Best:
I love my partner. Nothing that the Republic of California or the united States Government can do or say can change that.
Today is our 4 year anniversary.
We got to spend it with people who love us as much as we love them.
I got emails of love and support from people who love me.
There are numerous lawsuits and class action suits against this unconstitutional “amendment” and the organization that put it forth.
There have been glorious and beautiful protests and marches showing our outrage and hurt and making our voices heard.
My daughter, my heir, loves my partner and respects and honors my love and me- and would never disrespect our love by hurting her, usurping her place in my life or death or regarding our shared property.
And, the goodest of all is that my heart is full. I am so full of hope and inspiration and pride and love and gratitude that Bush’s reign of terror, ignorance and lies is in its death throes and our Obama is soon to be at the helm guiding a willing; no- eager America into a new era of change that all the BAD today and since prop 8 has no power over my heart or soul.

That bigoted, hateful, intolerant people can flounder in their own poison, because I am immune to it.

My heart is open.

I am whole.

And I love.
