How to Make Witches’ Bottles
| May 18, 2009 | 12:01 am

Witches’ Bottles have been used for home and personal protection down through the ages by myriad cultures, in many forms and going by many different names. As I cover magick here in Thorne’s World, I probably won’t be spending a whole lotta time chasing down history and references for you. There are plenty of books and internet sites and blogs that will give you that kind of information and I just doesn’t have time nor inclination for that sorta thing. What I want to write here, and for you, Constant Reader, is how I live a magickal lifestyle. What daily, weekly and seasonal things I do in my real life of magickal living.

Hell, I’ve probably forgotten more than I actually know, and I’d be hard pressed to tell you how I came by much of it; I am indeed an eclectic witch.

I have a number of Witches’ Bottles around my home. I love them. They are as attractive and artistic as I want them to be; some are meant to be seen and admired, others are hidden or even buried- but they all serve the purpose of protecting me and mine, and of course, my home. Read more »

Which is Witch?

Thorne’s World is a place of magick. You might not see it from where you stand, and perhaps that’s my fault. You see, I’ve been living a magickal life for so long that most times I don’t even think about it. It’s like my sobriety, I suppose. A good habit.
I don’t sit down and write posts about stirring health and protection into the pot when I cook, or about sweeping widdershins through my house to cleanse the place of nasty vibes (unspoken resentments, little arguments, and snide remarks) while I’m sweeping up the dust bunnies and bird messes.

I write about gardening; about shoveling poop and double digging beds and soaker hoses, but don’t write about Magickal planting and harvesting, about offerings given skyclad under the full moon.
And why, Thorne, is that? (You might ask)
I think it is indeed because it’s simply such a part of my life that I don’t really give it much thought. It pops in briefly the same way other day to days pop in here, but I also think there is more to it than that. My blog has been, from the start, more of a general me thing than any sort of theme. This blog is Thorne’s World which is a biiiig place, wide and full of different aspects and ideas and loves and dislikes.
I am as scattered and eclectic here as I am in my art and my life; which is pretty much all over the place. I am varied and various and hate to be put in a box, labeled, limited, defined.
And you all know I’ve been trying to think of a way to make a lil $$ blogging, but what I believe I have discovered is that a “personal” blog like mine will never do it. Folks want specialization. I can’t do that at Thorne’s World. And I don’t think I’m wrong in believing that those of you who read here; who care to check into what Thornie might be up to from time to time, wouldn’t want to see Thornesworld shrink to a theme.
So I’ve started another small blog. It’s Eclectic Witch.

It’s over at Today, and it’s full of ads already on the sidebars and dumped into the bottoms of my posts, so I don’t have to mess with all that much. They’re only slightly intrusive; I haven’t seen any flashing banners screaming “you’ve won” while blinking fast enough to give you a freaking seizure, thank Gods.
Anyway, I’m going to limit my moneymaking experiment to that blog, although of course I’ll still offer my handmade items and such here from time to time, and I’ll be posting links to my articles there, here.
Of course I’d be happy to see you all there, if you think the articles might be of interest to you, and I’d be super grateful if you’d care to blogroll me over there.

My first article at Eclectic Witch is on Witches
Bottles for Protection and Prosperity
