This night photo of one of my Sacred Datura is my Summer Stock Sunday submission.
 

Although it does bloom during the day, the flowers seem happiest to me at night. Tomorrow morning this bloom will lie yellowish and wilted. It will bloom all Summer and grow to perhaps three feet high and as much as twice that in girth. Before it dies back it will produce round, stickery seed pods.

This plant grows wild all over North America. People call it Jimson Weed and Loco Weed for it’s hallucinogenic properties. Many native cultures use it to have dreams and visions and it’s said to allow astral travel. It’s in the Nightshade family, so it is not a plant to be used lightly or without a full understanding of doses and preparation.

Medicinal: 1) Got bubbles? A gassy tummy or feel bloated and too full after a meal? A cup of Basil tea might be just what you need! *warning: do NOT use while pregnant

Magickal: 2) Put some basil in your Mojo or Medicine bag for safe travels, put a few leaves in the corners of the rooms of your home for protection, or burn some on charcoal to aid in dreaming and vision quests.

What’s good in Thorne’s World today?

Well, what isn’t? Haha! As bitchy and snarky as I can be, Friday’s I grab that halo and toss it up there to tip on those horns!  Really, a positive outlook can change the way we view things, can’t it?

Southern California weather is soooooo good!  I spent the entire day outside.  I got 4 loads of laundry done, which is good on multiple levels.  Not only did we need the clothes, but as well as being good for the environment, I love to hang laundry.  I do; it’s true.  I also started 72 cuttings each of Prostrate Rosemary and French Lavender, that I hope to pot and eventually plant in at least one of the labyrinths we’re planning here.

And it’s Friday!  That’s always good, but this week I’m especially tickled on this Friday the 13th.  We have a weekend of yard work planned, and although that might not sound like fun to you, I love to work in my yard and it’s so good when I have help!!

We’re assembling a dog run that I’m going to put a lid (roof) on so my birds can enjoy a bit more freedom outside in this great weather than they get with their outdoor cages.  I’m also hoping to socialize them with each other a bit.  Those are good things for my birdies and for the birdy-mama (because when my parrots are happy, I’m happy!)
