I want to say that underneath it all you are my friend

And the way that I fell for you I’ll never fall that way again

I still believe despite our differences that what we have’s enough

I believe in you and I believe in love

Today’s post, and the daily posts as I’m able to write them for the next while, will be in recognition and gratitude of the individual members of this awesome example of compassionate humanity that I have come to term my “Blogging Community”. We are a diverse bunch that have only a couple of things in common at the core; that we care about our world and the people in it, and that we simply must write. You who have reached out to me with such love and honesty, humore and compassion, irreverence and support make up this community. You may not all know each other for we are a far ranging and diverse community hailing from all walks and parts of the globe. If you haven’t been over to check out my featured blogger in this personal gratitude series, please take a moment to go by and check them out. You may well find another wonderful person to add to your blogging family.

The song for today is from the Indigo Girls CD entitled Despite our Differences (scroll down for full lyrics), and the song is I Believe in Love.

Push Play

Betmo at Life’s Journey. Betmo has been one of the bloggers who has shown me friendship and support since I began this blogging journey in April of this year (Wow, was it really such a short time ago? It feels like years).

Betmo is a fierce champion of the environment, watchdog of the “rethuglican” terror; an outspoken and “truthy” atheist american. She is a queen of DIY home improvement and gardener. She is indeed a scholar and a poet, but above all she is a warm and caring human blogger.

Betmo once honored me in her “Truthy American’s” corner, placing me in the august company Rosie O’Donnel, Bill Mahrer, Sean Penn and Barbara Streisand, among others. (I don’t remeber the rant that inspired this honor, but it must have been a good one!!) She has faithfully and regularly commented on even my foolish posts, and always has a supportive word when I’ve been depressed or in crisis. She has helped me with technical issues and referred me to others when she was unable to solve my problem. When I have posted devastatingly personal issues in my blog, she has taken the time to send me caring and supportive personal emails, even just notes to check up on me when I have been silent overlong, and has been known to deliver me a swift kick in the ass when I needed it. Betmo reccomended me as a contributor to both the Peace Train and Siren’s Chronicles, (where she contributes, also) two worthy sites that I wrote for briefly before becoming overwhelmed with committment and life. We both participated in the Blog Against Thoecracy, issues 1 and 2, You can also find betmo at poets for peace, scrap paper, and the peace tree

Thank you for all that you are, betmo, my friend!!!

Title: I Believe in Love

Artist: Indigo Girls

Album: Despite our Differences

When we tried to rework all of thisEach to her renditionPainted ourselves in a cornerLost for ideas blindly fishingFor a compliment or kindnessJust to bring us into viewBut you could not interpret me and I could not interpret you

I remember that cold morning when the trees were black with birdsI tried to make out some connectionWe were at a loss for wordsAfter all that we've been throughI could not see giving upDespite the picture of our coffee growing colder in the cupsI want to say that underneath it all you are my friendAnd the way that I fell for you I'll never fall that way againI still believe despite our differences that what we have's enoughAnd I believe in you and I believe in love

So we went rolling on down through the yearsTaking time off we could stealUntil the thief of things unreconciledStuck it's stick into the wheelNow we're tumbling in a freefallNo one's gonna go unscathedBut it's not because you held back and its not how I behaved

I want to say that underneath it all you are my friendAnd the way that I fell for you I'll never fall that way againI still believe despite our differences that what we have's enoughI believe in you and I believe in love

There are avenues and supplements and books stacked on the shelfLabyrinths of recovery in search of our best selfBut most of what will happen now is way out of our handsSo just let it go and see where it lands

I want to say that underneath it all you are my friendAnd the way that I fell for you I'll never fall that way againI still believe despite our differences that what we have's enoughI believe in you and I believe in loveI believe in you and I believe in love
A Few of my Favorite BAT ll Posts
| July 6, 2007 | 1:45 am

Well, okay… more than a few. And I’ve barely made it through about 1/4 of them. Um… I should say, them; so far. Their were links going up for days after the last BAT. So here are Thorne’s Picks from today’s reading.

Blog Against Theocracy: What America means to me
“The strongest supporter of Theocracy, around”

Irony is the medium here, and it’s soooo well done!! Bravo!!!

Seething Mom

is at it again, (BAT l post) with an incredible, heartfelt and reasoned post on the ways gays are failed by our theocratic government and religion. This coming from a theist. I know alot of my athiest friends have a problem with moderate theists, but in my opinion, a theist who knows they’ve been screwed by religion and the government that embraces it makes a powerful and vocal ally!! Check her out!!
Rick over at 10% has a great one entitled:

Prosperity Doctrine- The Church Of The Free Market

He opens with this gem:

“If you actually read the bible that Jesus geezer comes off as…well a bit of a lefty, actually a democratic socialist forming an opposition movement in an imperially occupied state. In short he was more Che Guevara than CEO of Halliburton, more insurgent than GI Joe.”

Oh, Talk To Action has a great piece on the

Enemy/Friend

dynamic and how to avoid playing the part that the RR has assigned us.

And if you think for a second that the Rethug party doesn’t have a plan to christianize america, download this: “National Party Platforms on Specific Biblical Issues,” . For a special synopsis stop by

HJHOP

for a treat!

Betmo

is still pissed off, (but eloquent and too the point!) and I don’t blame her a bit.

Thit’s it for the serious stuff for today. Time for Thorne to play…

Feminist Flounderings (or Thorne’s Identity Crisis)
| June 10, 2007 | 1:02 am

“Whooooo are youuuuu?”, The caterpillar asked.
“Well sir, I’m not exactly sure at present”, replied Alice. “At least, I knew who I was when I got up this morning, but I must have changed a thousand times since then.”

We interrupt our regular programming for an official Thorne’s World identity crisis. Regular programming will return next Venusday and tomorrow is looking alot like a surprise Sexual Sinday.

Given my recent rant about the FFF/WOC issue, and now, having been made aware of

“I saw one woman, Renegade Evolution, harrased and threatened to the point where she has now agreed to never speak on feminist issues again.”

via Disgusted Beyond Belief in a post entitled: My thoughts on Feminism (as I now head for cover), I’m quite at a loss. I’ve also been reading alot at Fetch me my axe where a very human woman and feminist (I think she has not yet eschewed the term), and her very human readers make alot more sense than the milque toast mumblings over at Feministing, which I feel are a thin veneer over a sea of judgment and vitriol after FFF/WOC… and now I discover this fucking vile and poisonous attack on tranpersons under the supposed umbrella of feminism!!! While reading there, I’m offered innocuously in the form of a question to consider this piece of garbage masquerading as some sort of feminist political theory, and by the time I got finished with that bag of shit I was just fucking sick at people again.

Fuck this buncha idiots.

Self centered, poisonous, judgmental, wastes of oxygen. This kinda crap is the reason I’m spending more and more time over at Feminist Critics. I’m seriously trying to evaluate if feminism is a movement with which I choose any longer to identify. Or if it has been poisoned and subverted by this current brand of feminism, whatever exactly it is.

I am so offended to think that the feminism I know and love and have held dear for so long has been usurped by these violent poisonous assholes.

*sigh*

Okay, anybody reading this who can help me discover if this blogosphere insanity is a phenomenon in and of itself or if it actually a reflection of the real world, please do. I’m begging. I’m fuckin’ dyin’ here.

And why do I question the possibility of peace? This crap is one of the reasons.
