Time To Blog Against Theocracy, Again
| April 5, 2009 | 8:07 pm

… in Thornesworld and across the bloggy-sphere.
Yeee – freaking – haw!! It’s time for all of we radical – left wing – liberal – tree hugging – commies to raise hell and take names in the name of the Separation of Church and State again!

separation of church and state

Check out Tengrain’s (MPS-link below) ass kicking graphic. OMFSM, I adore him!

Has it really been only 2 years? This is nuts. It has been a hella couple of years; felt like 5. I was looking back through my archives and so blown away to discover that it was only back in 2007 that I participated in the first Blog Against Theocracy

I think it kinda rocks that I just happened to decide to take a break from the mechanics- all this css-code-crap-wordpress-blood-n-guts and go visiting today (I was missing my blogfriends, I just had my head too far up the ass of my code to notice), and there it was, posted at Mock, Paper, Scissors.

I’m sure you all know what I’ll be writing about this weekend, what axe I’ll be grinding on this weekend of thoughts and essays on the subject of the separation of church and h8…errr…state, will be. It’s pretty good timing to write about human rights, equality under law and Prop H8 here in Cali.

So for this coming weekend, we will be interrupting our usual bloggy schedule to bring you Thornie’s thoughts on this topic.

In case you feel like warming up to the topic, here are my 2007 contributions:

A Few of my Favorite BAT ll Posts
| July 6, 2007 | 1:45 am

Well, okay… more than a few. And I’ve barely made it through about 1/4 of them. Um… I should say, them; so far. Their were links going up for days after the last BAT. So here are Thorne’s Picks from today’s reading.

Blog Against Theocracy: What America means to me
“The strongest supporter of Theocracy, around”

Irony is the medium here, and it’s soooo well done!! Bravo!!!

Seething Mom

is at it again, (BAT l post) with an incredible, heartfelt and reasoned post on the ways gays are failed by our theocratic government and religion. This coming from a theist. I know alot of my athiest friends have a problem with moderate theists, but in my opinion, a theist who knows they’ve been screwed by religion and the government that embraces it makes a powerful and vocal ally!! Check her out!!
Rick over at 10% has a great one entitled:

Prosperity Doctrine- The Church Of The Free Market

He opens with this gem:

“If you actually read the bible that Jesus geezer comes off as…well a bit of a lefty, actually a democratic socialist forming an opposition movement in an imperially occupied state. In short he was more Che Guevara than CEO of Halliburton, more insurgent than GI Joe.”

Oh, Talk To Action has a great piece on the

Enemy/Friend

dynamic and how to avoid playing the part that the RR has assigned us.

And if you think for a second that the Rethug party doesn’t have a plan to christianize america, download this: “National Party Platforms on Specific Biblical Issues,” . For a special synopsis stop by

HJHOP

for a treat!

Betmo

is still pissed off, (but eloquent and too the point!) and I don’t blame her a bit.

Thit’s it for the serious stuff for today. Time for Thorne to play…

Have you HAD ENOUGH?! BAT ll post #2
| July 4, 2007 | 5:09 pm

I’ve been thinking about, planning and drafting my posts for this 2nd semi annual Blog Against Theocracy. The problem for me is, that everything I wish to write about is covered eloquently and succinctly elsewhere, and that the topics which are of high importance directly to me and my life, I pretty much covered in the 1st BAT. Additionally, it seems that the 108 degree heat here in our High Desert of So. Cali has frightened my muse away for the nonce.
So what’s a dyke to do? If I had to shout to the rooftops, in one breath, the single best thing we as a nation could do to combat the creeping theocracy under which we are governed it would be this:

Impeach! Impeach! Impeach!
Impeach Bush and Cheney and restore our government
to the will of the people!!!!

So these few snippets are in support of that goal. This clip is my BAT ll post #2

From his blog at the Daily Kos: Had Enough of seeing the Constitution trashed? Enough of the corruption? Enough of the war? Enough of the gutless response of our elected Democratic representatives?”
Now, here is a simple action that most of us should be able to take. Let’s get on it!!
If you’re answer is yes, he has a suggestion. Every week, starting this Sunday, he and his friend Cenk Uyger will be going to the corner of Veteran and Wilshire in West LA, and they’re asking that people in other cities to hold similar one-hour protests in their local areas to help spread the message. Obviously, I can’t go myself, but I’m hoping that by posting this, maybe one or two of you will decide to go or will pass it on to your own friends. A Clark notes in his full post (click the link below to read the whole thing), the government isn’t listening to any of us at this point – and the only way to change that is to get large enough groups out making it clear they’ve had enough that the message can no longer be ignored.
clipped from www.dailykos.com

If you’re not in L.A., just go to whatever the most common protest site is in your home city with a shirt or sign that says you’ve had enough from noon to one p.m. this Sunday. You don’t have to march, chant, play drums, pass out pamphlets or build puppets (not that we’re against those things). All you have to do is stand there with one word: enough.

Cenk and I don’t care if we’re the only two people there. We don’t care because the next Sunday, each of us has pledged to bring two more people with us, and we’ll ask them to make the same pledge. And we’ll keep standing out there every single Sunday, doubling our numbers, from now until we’ve got so many people with us that we cannot be ignored.

So how about it? Have you had enough? Will you stand with us?
