Flat Earthers…

and climate change nay-sayers haunt me. Global warming and melting ice and stupid people haunt me.gilbertR1

So really, I’m no idiot. I understand that that time as we shortlived humans count it hardly matters when it’s held up to geoligical timelines. I also understand that our Mama is and our surrounding Universe is aging and changing in its own mysterious ways. Understanding that climate changes are part of that process however, does not give validity to the argument against our part in having an effect on the earth and our part in global warming. That’s what we call a fallacy in logical thinking.

Let’s get real. Of all the mammals on this earth since the very dawn of life, has ever a species changed as much of the planet as we do? Levelling mountains for ores and coal (is coal an ore? *hmmmm). Razing rainforests to graze cattle? Paving millions of miles for cities and roads? Poisoning our air and water…

Who can be so stupid as to believe that these things (and countless others, I’m sure) have not had and are not having an effect on our world? Or does anyone really think that? Are the folks that say it just the people who want to keep making money on raping the earth? I dunno.

Check out 350.org and see what you can do to help.

DOMA Must Go!!
| September 15, 2009 | 11:24 am

DOMA must go!!! The following is copied text from the Lamda Legal email I received this am:
Today, a bill to repeal the so-called “Defense of Marriage Act” (DOMA) was introduced into the House of Representatives. I was pleased to stand with Congressman Jerrold Nadler and other co-sponsors and especially proud to introduce Jen and Dawn BarbouRoske who were plaintiffs in our marriage equality victory in Iowa.

Because of that victory in April, Jen and Dawn are now married. Because of DOMA, their marriage is not recognized or respected by our federal government. That’s a disgrace. It’s long past time for DOMA to go.

Iowa plaintiffs Jen (left) and Dawn (right) BarbouRoske with their daughters Breanna and McKinley stand with Congressman Jerrold Nadler outside of the U.S. Capitol Building.

The Respect for Marriage Act introduced today will repeal this shameful law that currently prevents the federal government from recognizing the marriages of same-sex couples. For example, same-sex spouses are not entitled to Social Security benefits in the same way their married neighbors are and are forced by their government to lie when they file their federal tax returns, as they are required to check the “single” box when they are legally married.

The BarbouRoskes have been together for nearly 20 years and when they got married this summer, they got the same license and undertook the same responsibilities as every other married couple in Iowa. The federal government should not discriminate against them. That’s why Lambda Legal’s attorneys have been working closely for months with Congressman Nadler’s staff and colleagues from our sister LGBT organizations to craft this bill and prepare for its launch today.

Please call or email your member of Congress today to ask him or her to co-sponsor and support the Respect for Marriage Act.

Earlier this year, Lambda Legal’s unanimous marriage equality victory in the heartland state of Iowa showed that Americans are ready for change. But there is a lot of hard work ahead to gain passage of this bill. There are already more than 90 co-sponsors—which is inspiring—but we need more.

We have a fact sheet available online to explain more about this bill and what it means to you.

It was great to be in Washington today. After 13 years, it is time to take this insulting and discriminatory law off the books. We are proud of Congressman Nadler, openly gay members of Congress Tammy Baldwin (WI) and Jared Polis (CO) and the many other co-sponsors, and thank them for their leadership.

Lambda Legal will continue to fight to see that the Respect for Marriage Act is passed—and will keep fighting for the rights of same-sex couples across the country. Thank you for supporting our work and being part of history!”

Do your stuff, ppl!
Peace, out!

Time To Blog Against Theocracy, Again
| April 5, 2009 | 8:07 pm

… in Thornesworld and across the bloggy-sphere.
Yeee – freaking – haw!! It’s time for all of we radical – left wing – liberal – tree hugging – commies to raise hell and take names in the name of the Separation of Church and State again!

separation of church and state

Check out Tengrain’s (MPS-link below) ass kicking graphic. OMFSM, I adore him!

Has it really been only 2 years? This is nuts. It has been a hella couple of years; felt like 5. I was looking back through my archives and so blown away to discover that it was only back in 2007 that I participated in the first Blog Against Theocracy

I think it kinda rocks that I just happened to decide to take a break from the mechanics- all this css-code-crap-wordpress-blood-n-guts and go visiting today (I was missing my blogfriends, I just had my head too far up the ass of my code to notice), and there it was, posted at Mock, Paper, Scissors.

I’m sure you all know what I’ll be writing about this weekend, what axe I’ll be grinding on this weekend of thoughts and essays on the subject of the separation of church and h8…errr…state, will be. It’s pretty good timing to write about human rights, equality under law and Prop H8 here in Cali.

So for this coming weekend, we will be interrupting our usual bloggy schedule to bring you Thornie’s thoughts on this topic.

In case you feel like warming up to the topic, here are my 2007 contributions:
