taurus the heirophant tarot astrology divination meditation

Taurus err… Tarot Tuesday presents:

The Heirophant

Hahahaha! I love this card! Well, if I tell the truth I have a sorta love/hate relationship with The Heirophant. You see, he’s me.

The Heirophant card represents my astrological sun sign which is Taurus (no matter how you cut it; I’m a bull whether you follow Tropical or Sidereal astrology). I was also born in the Chinese astrology year of the Ox, so I have a kinda double whammy for being earthy and stubborn and stolid. Lucky for me my rising sign is Mercury which helps to keep me from being so firmly grounded in the earth that I turn to stone! I like to say that I get to leave my head in the clouds because my feet are planted firmly on the ground. Anyway, I digress.

The Heirophant. This card was my nearly constant companion for many years. He always shows up to remind me that I’m being hidebound and I need to open my mind and heart and eyes to change. In the early years of my struggle with the Patriarchy; when I was a single mom, when I was growing up as a feminist and coming out as a witch he turned up often in readings and meditations along with more feminine energy cards (like the Empress or Strength) to remind me that aggression and attack aren’t always the answer to my problems. He often appeared when I was banging my head against a patriarchal or bigoted religious mindset or structure to open my eyes to the futility of my approach. He warns me when I am too worried about what others will think of my traditions, practices or behaviors.

I don’t see him much in my meditations these days. Likely that’s because I’ve pretty much gotten to that “Red Hat” or “wear purple” stage in my life wherein the outward trappings of ritual and presentation don’t mean much to me anymore personally, (unless they happen to be manifesting in a political structure that affects human rights).

Although the Heirophant represents the outward trappings of ritual and order, he also represents the comfort and stability found in tradition. Like many of the cards, he is both a reminder and a warning.

Leave a comment and tell me what the Heirophant says to you!
Peace, out.
