This, my friends, is my small lavender shrub. I think I have a pic of the large one in bloom too…

Please excuse the junk up in the left corner there. You know by now that I use junk as yard art, and that piece, I’m afraid, got tossed when I had to do some weeding! The tumbleweeds, or Russian Thistle, are awful here this year! They are my nemesis.
This is what they look like when they are green and small. They are already a bit stickery and hard on the hands, but if I don’t get them now, they turn into this:
I’m afraid my yard is a wreck this year. Last year I was MIA in depression and grief and neglected my yard-work terribly. I’m so sad this year that I lost so many cool plants, but really jazzed at the ones that are bouncing back after a season of neglect, like my little sage here:
Check out the related posts below for a list of uses lavender (even a recipe for Lavender cookies! Yumm!) I know I wrote somewhere here about how to boil and eat the young, tender Russian Thistle, but I can’t find it anywhere (I really need to sort out my tags!!) but frankly I find it a bit bitter as a green anyway, so I’ll skip it.
I’m heading out to the yard now, to deal with the dreaded tumbleweeds and to plant my poor row-boat full of summer flowers (after weeding it, of course! Ugh!
Peace, out!
