Monday is the perfect day for this word. Office. As rough as Mondays often are on me, being the day that I return to the real world of finances and bills, mail and worries after my self imposed weekend escape, I must admit that the only way Mondays could be worse would be if I had to suit up and show up for an office job!
You may have guessed, even if you are not particularly intuitive (although I’m sure that everyone who reads my blog is indeed particularly intuitive), that Thorni does not work and play well with others.
I know, I know. I can almost hear you all exclaiming “But Thorni, you are so personable and charming… so circumspect and tactful”.
Hehe. Well thanks friends, but the truth is that Thorni has no governor on her mouth. Well. That’s not exactly true, but let’s just say that it has a limited number of uses. And the number of charges it requires seem to grow exponentially larger the more often I use it. Which means that when I really need it most; when I am about to open my mouth and spew forth some usually succinct but often better left unsaid bit of Thorneish wisdom- that, my friends, is the time that my governer fails me. No juice left. Dead. (If I had Asperger’s Syndrome I could blame it on that. But I don’t. Alas.)
Do you begin to see why office is a dirty word in Thorne’s World? I get in so much trouble saying things that are probably better left unsaid in an office environment.
It’s bad enough that I call people on all their “isms” ie; racism, sexism, ageism, fatism and homophobia. I mean, those are some of the things that I consciously choose to address. What’s worse is that I’m unable to engage in office chit-chat- patter-gossip. People don’t like that.
And then there are all the little things that I just opine freely without thought. Things ranging from general world observations to how a job might be done more efficiently in the office.
Um… so yeah. Thorni is not so good in an office. In general, other office workers do not seem to find Thorni quite to their taste. I believe it would be safe to say that an office is probably the only place I’ve ever spent a reasonable amount of time and not come away with a friend. Not even one. As abrasive as I can be I can usually find at least one like mind in most venues- but not, to date, in an office.
That’s it for office. Stop by Mo’s Meme if you wanna play.

My first visit here and I immediately had a laugh. Great writing. I look forward to reading more posts.
I played Manic Monday for the first time today with no previous visits to posts for it. My take on it ended up being done with images. If I could write like you do, I’d have done so, believe me!
Thank you, PS. I hope to see more of you and your lovely images.
I was never particularly good at working in an office either. No patience for people. So I became a teacher :-) Now I work from home.
“Home Office” is good :-). Thanks for coming by!
